School Art Supply Drive

August 1-31, 2013

During the month of August, Doongalik Studios Art Gallery on Village Road and The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas on West Hill Street will each adopt a government high school in their community and bolster their art programmes by providing much needed supplies to their students.

The community ins encouraged to donate unopened or gently used art supplies (i.e. sketch paper, pencils, charcoal, paint, brushes, etc.) during the month of August.

Materials can be dropped off at either gallery location and 100% of the supplies will go directly to the art departments and fuel the creative expression of young Bahamian artists. For more information contact Orchid Burnside at 394-1886 or Jordia Benjamin at 328-5800.

Explosure
August 8, 2013

The Art of Passion

The family of deceased Bahamian artist Chan Prat along with the Central Bank of The Bahamas are honouring his memory by hosting the Chan Pratt show. The public is inviting to view attend the first show since his passing. There will be original works as well as prints on display and for sale.

Then begins on 7-9pm and will run until August 30.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun 2 “Road Trips”

The C.H.A.M.P.S (chosen, honored, appointed, motivated, positive, sister) presents the Girl Jus Wanna Have Fun 2 ‘Road Trips event’. The event is expected to be a journey to spiritual and physical development. It will be held on August 9 at the The Crab House. The event begins at 7.30pm

During the event there will be motivational speakers, fashion, makeup and beauty tips. There will also be a time to design a cupcake in the Cupcake Couture Segment.

All young and adult women are invited to the event. C.H.A.M.P.S is a non-profit Young Women group formed over a year ago and presently registered under the Ministry of Youth. The group believes that in the development and empowerment of all women.

The Bahamas Conch Fest

August 10, 2013

This Saturday will be all about the Bahamian delicacy, conch. The Bahamas conch fest will be held on R M Bailey Park beginning at 11am - until 9pm.

During the event there will be opportunities to taste an array of dishes made with conch. There will also be a conch, tropical and scorched salad competition.

The Growth Series

The D’Aguilar Art Foundation will present an art show titled the Growth Series featuring the work of Bahamian artist Alistair Stevenson.

The exhibit will feature 15-plus sculptural pieces which at times combine both functional and decorative use. In the pieces Stevenson depicts his personal and professional growth over the past six years. The show begins from 6-9pm.

This will be Stevenson’s final art show before embarking on a new journey in the People’s Republic of China to study Ceramaic Arts.
