MOSCOW, Russia: National record holder Jeffery Gibson made his debut at the global level by advancing to the semifinal of the men's 400metres hurdles on day three of the 14th IAAF World Championships.

Gibson, the only Bahamian to compete in the morning session at the Luzhniki Grand Sports Arena, came behind over the last three of the ten set of hurdles to for a fourth place finish in the fourth of five heats in 50.25.

The race was won by 2012 African Championship silver medalist Mamadou Kasse Hanne from Senegal in 49.33. l

Jamaican Leford Green, the 2010 CAC Games and 2011 CAC Championship gold medallist, took second in 49.45 and American Bershawn Jackson, the 2008 Olympic Games bronze medallist and 2005 World's gold medalist, came through in third place in 49.76.

Grand Bahamian native Gibson was posted as the 26th overall finisher, going into today's semifinal.

In the evening session tonight, Sheniqua 'Q' Ferguson will run out of lane nine in the last of three heats to get into the final that closes day three competition.

Following the women's century semifinal, Chris 'Fireman' Brown will run out of lane eight in second heat of the men's 400 metres semifinal tonight to secure his berth in the final on Tuesday at 400 at 9:50 pm.

Also Tuesday at 9:50 am will be the qualifying round of the men's highjump with 2007 world champion Donald Thomas as the 15th out of 17 competitors in Group A, while Ryan Ingraham will be the 10th out of 17 competitors in Group B.

Thomas, 29, goes in with a personal best of 2.35m (7-8 1/2) and a season's best of 2.31m (7-7).

Ingraham, 19, did both his PR and SB of2.30 (7-6 1/2) in Canada in June.

The automatic qualifying height is 2.31 (7-7) the best 12 performers will advance to the final on Thursday at 7 pm.
