MINISTER of Labour and National Insurance Shane Gibson said the Attorney General’s Office should be in its new JFK Drive home by the end of the year, and as possibly as soon as next month.

Mr Gibson said his ministry has finished construction of the building and is only awaiting the completion of supplemental work.

“I think we have about 48,000 square feet of space in that building and the electrical work is 100 per cent complete.

“They are now putting in some security measures. Finishing off a couple of data drops, telephones and data services and then the Attorney General’s Office hopefully should be relocated there. It would definitely be before the end of the year. We are trying to shoot for sometime in September,” Mr Gibson said.

The Minister of Labour and National Insurance noted that it was very important to have the lawyers of the Attorney General’s Office stationed in a comfortable and safe environment.

He noted that the Main Post Office, where the office has been locate for many years, has been experiencing problems for some time.

“Some large pieces of concrete were falling out periodically. You have a huge problem with mould in the building, and so when we came to office initially the Ministry of Tourism was supposed to be relocated in that (JFK) building, but we thought it was more appropriate to put the Attorney General’s Office there,” Mr Gibson said.
