POLICE have three men in custody in connection with the discovery of the body of 17-year-old Altaranika Young.

Altranika’s body was found on Sunday in the area of St Augustine’s College and Monastery.

Police say a passerby was jogging through a road just east of the Monastery around 6pm when he saw the young girl’s lifeless body.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel. There were no visible signs of injuries on her body, but according to sources, police believe she was strangled or suffocated.

Paul Rolle, Officer in charge of the Central Detective Unit, said police have still not classified the death and are awaiting the results of the autopsy.

“We have three persons in custody, all three of them are 18 years old. We have still not determined what the cause of death is, we have seen some things but we need confirmation because there were no visible injuries on her body. We expect to have that done today and then we can take that information to the public, but we do not want to pre-empt the findings,” he said.

Mr Rolle also denied that any of the men in custody is the boyfriend of the victim.

Meanwhile police are still searching for the person/persons responsible for the murder of Javina McKenzie, 27, of South Beach Estates.

Police say McKenzie was in the area of Whites Addition off Kemp Road around 10:13pm Saturday when he was shot multiple times.

He died at the scene.

Anyone with information on any of these crimes is asked to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.

The country’s murder count now stands at 69.
