AN 18-year-old boy was arraigned in Magistrate’s Court yesterday in connection with the strangling death of a 17-year-old girl, the country’s 69th homicide victim for the year.

Cameron Vincent of Dorsett Street, Fox Hill appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Joyanne Ferguson-Pratt facing a charge of murder concerning the August 11 murder of Altarnika Young.

It is claimed that Vincent, by means of unlawful harm, intentionally killed Young, whose lifeless body was found near St Augustine’s College and Monastery.

A passerby was jogging on a road just east of the Monastery around 6pm when he made the find.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.

There were no visible signs of injury on her body and an autopsy was performed to determine the cause of death.

Vincent was not required to enter a plea to the charge due to its nature.

He was further informed that his case would be fast tracked to the Supreme Court for trial through a Voluntary Bill of Indictment.

That presentation is scheduled for November 5, when he is expected to return to Magistrate’s Court.

The acting chief magistrate remanded the accused to Her Majesty’s Prison until the completion of the trial.

Vincent has retained attorney Ian Cargill to defend him.
