Marine's death is thought to be suicide

THE ROYAL Bahamas Defence Force as well as friends and family of 41-year-old Chinyere Wilkinson are mourning his loss today, after the marine is believed to have committed suicide on Friday.

Police say it happened around 7pm.

According to reports, the 16-year veteran was found by a family member, hanging from a ceiling fan in the hallway of his apartment.

At present, police are still unsure of the circumstances surrounding this incident and investigations are continuing.

Royal Bahamas Defence Force Commander, Commodore Roderick Bowe, extended condolences to the family, friends and loved one’s of Wilkinson.

In a statement, the RBDF described him as a quiet, confident and committed marine who enlisted in the Defence Force as a member of New Entry 32 and Woman Entry 6, in 1997.

The statement said he served in numerous departments throughout the years and his presence would be greatly missed by the members of the Defence Force who mourn his loss.

At the time of this death, Wilkinson was the Leading Mechanic at the RBDF.
