Five held over discovery of drug stash

FIVE men were detained by police in Andros in connection with the discovery of a drug stash on a boat.

The men were taken in to custody for questioning around 7am on Tuesday.

According to reports, a joint operation by Andros police and Drug Enforcement Unit officers from Nassau led to the drug find on a 36-foot boat.

The men were detained at Mangrove Cay Marina.

Investigations continue.

Police also reported the recovery of a stolen vehicle and a firearm after a high speed chase early yesterday morning.

The incident took place around 3.30am.

According to reports, Mobile Division officers were on patrol on Cowpen Road, when they received a report of a stolen silver Honda travelling in the same area.

A short while later the officers spotted the vehicle and began to follow it.
The occupants noticed the police, and sped off after firing several shots at the officers.

A short exchange of gunfire broke out, which resulted the vehicle crashing into bushes near Bacardi Road.

The suspects ran into the bushes.

The officers gave chase but were unable to catch the men.

Police conducted a search of the stolen vehicle and uncovered a handgun along with a quantity of ammunition.

Police are also investigating the robbery of a Texaco Service Station on Tuesday night.

According to reports, a man wearing a bandana and carrying a black handgun robbed the establishment on Carmichael Road, and its customers, before fleeing in double cab Ford F-150 truck.
