Former cop on gun charges

FORMER police constable Jovanh Munnings, 31, was charged yesterday with possession of an unlicensed firearm and causing damage.

It is alleged that on Saturday, November 30, while concerned with another, Munnings was found in possession of a .45 pistol, despite lacking the necessary special licence.

It is alleged that on the same day, he caused $24,000 worth of damage to the front service gate of Venice Bay in New Providence.

Munnings pleaded not guilty to both charges and elected to have the matters tried in the Magistrates Court.

The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that Munnings is a flight risk and has further charges pending. However, Magistrate Andrew Forbes granted bail in the sum of $14,000 with two sureties and adjourned both matters to April 4, 2014.

Magistrate Forbes also ordered Munnings to surrender his travel documents and ordered him to report to the Carmichael Road Police Station every Monday and Friday.
