Christmas trees bring help to families

FREEPORT – The sale of real Christmas trees by the Lucaya Presbyterian Church has been benefitting the community for more than 40 years as profits from the sales assist several outreach projects and many families in need.

“Each year we have been very fortunate to sell the trees we order,” said Dave Willard, member and organiser of the Christmas tree sales.

As the push to “go green” continues, many have opted to include a live tree in their celebrations over the past few years.

“When you farm Christmas trees, it’s a renewable stock,” said Mr Willard.

“You have to stagger your growing so that in any one year you have trees at different ranges.”

Some say they don’t like live trees as they can be messy, but the trees sold by the Church are Fraser Firs, which shed less than other trees.

Mr Willard noted that with consistent watering and protection from direct sunlight, the trees can last for weeks and some times well into the new year.

Lucaya Presbyterian Church has pledged to continue serving the community and the sale of the trees helps bolster several projects already underway.

“Hope. That is what the local church is to be about; it is what LPC is trying to be about, to provide hope to a hurting world through the message of Jesus. When we give back and serve our community we become the hands and feet of Jesus taking the hope of the Gospel into the world in real and tangible ways,” said Rev Mike Hamilton.

Trees are on sale at the Lucaya Masonic Hall on East Sunrise Highway.
