St John's and St Paul's advance

ST John’s and St Paul’s have advanced to the Baptist Sports Council’s 2013 Coca-Cola Softball Classic’s best-of-three championship series that is scheduled to be played in the Banker’s Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex on Saturday.

On Tuesday night in their best-of-three semifinal playoffs, St John’s came from a 1-0 deficit to pull off two consecutive games, holding off St Paul’s 11-9 in game two, but coming back from behind in the third and deciding game for a 23-22 walk-off victory.

St John’s will now have to wait for the winner of Thursday’s series between Golden Gates and Macedonia. Golden Gates will take a 1-0 lead into game two at 7pm.

Meanwhile, St Paul’s completed a two-game sweep over Macedonia by taking game two 16-8. With the win, St Paul’s got into the final of the men’s division. They will await the winner of the other half of the playoffs between Golden Gates and Calvary Deliverance.

Here’s a summary of the games played:

St John’s 23, St Paul’s 22

Darvin Duncombe had a RBI walk and closed out a six-run bottom of the fourth inning on a passed ball as St John’s came from a 22-17 deficit for their walk-off victory that earned them a trip to the final.

Duncombe came in for ejected Rashad Seymour in the third and had a hit and a walk with a RBI, scoring twice. Deandra Rigby was 3-for-3 with a three-run homer, Alcott Forbes had a pair of solo homers with two walks and two more runs and Donnette Edwards was 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs.

Birthday girl Vonetta Nairn was 3-for-5 with two RBI and four runs, Lamar Watkins was 3-for-5 with a pair of two-run homers, Zhivargo Archer was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and Trekia Munroe was 1-for-3 with three runs for the losers.

St John’s 11, St Paul’s 9

Donnette Edwards went 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs as St John’s pulled even in their co-ed series at 1-1. Martin Burrows had a two-run single and Tori Rolle, Alcott Forbes and Ruth Coakley all scored two runs. Kelly Smith was 3-for-3 with three RBI to lead the losers. Raymond Larrimore was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs and Vonetta Nairn was 1-for-2 with two runs scored.

St Paul’s 16, Macedonia 8

Prescott Wilson was a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored, Addie Finley was = 2-for-3 with a solo homer, Lamar Watkins had a three-run double, scoring a run, Deval Storr had a two-run single, scoring two runs and Zhivargo Archer, Lynden Gaitor, Ray Strachan and Willard Elliott all scored two runs. Deval Storr got the win on the mound. Maitland Demeritte was tagged with the loss.

Tim Clarke and Kili Kermo both were 2-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored, D’Kyle Rolle was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored and both Waymond Demeritte and Courtney Smith both had a hit with a RBI, scoring a run in a losing effort.
