AFTER exiting the gate a little bit slow last Monday night in City League Bowling competition, reigning national bowling champion Driskell Rolle of TK Falcons cranked it up a notch and went on to smash the ladies’ high game record of 288 held by the late Cheryl Thompson since 1993. Rolle eight spared in the first frame of the second game then threw strikes the remainder of the game for her record breaking 290 game.

Rolle also ended up with a respectable 626 three game set with games of 166, 290 & 170. On Wednesday night, the Financial Bowling League will continue its regular season with the following matches:

JUNIOR GOLF CAMP

THE 5th annual Georgette Rolle Junior Golf Camp is set to take place December 19-21 at the BGF Driving Range in the Baillou Hills Sports Complex. This year the camp is projected to teach more than 150 kids per day for the three-day camp. The golf camp is provided at a minimal fee of $1 per participant. 

“In 2012 we partnered with Lignum Vitae Centre of Hope to expand our reach and impact more youth from the inner city,” Rolle said.

The camp’s instructors include Bahamian golf professionals Georgette Rolle, Riccardo Davis Jr, and Oren Butler, PGA professional and executive director of the First Tee of Houston, David Harris, and former BGF junior golfers DeVaughn Robinson and Kristian McSweeney.

Camp committee members include Ethelyn Davis, Yvonne Shaw, Veldia Coleby, and Olive Patton. Volunteers include Dorathea Ferguson, Doreen Peters, Shelagh Pritchard, and Diana Bullard.

IC JUNIOR TENNIS

CHALLENGE

THERE have been competitions in Japan, Italy, South Africa and Chile for the IC Junior challenge. Now on Saturday and Sunday, December 15-16, the Bahamas will be hosting the North American IC Junior Challenge at the National Tennis Centre with teams from the USA, Mexico, Barbados and the Bahamas. They will compete for the last place in the worldwide finals to be held on the prestigious grass courts at Wimbledon next July.

The event is for a team of two boys and two girls in the 16-and-under age category. All juniors compete as one team playing both singles and doubles against all the other teams.

The Bahamas’ team is comprised of Joshua Turnquest, Shannon Francis, Iesha Shepherd and Gabriela Donaldson. Neil Mactaggart is the captain.

On Saturday, the Bahamas Cricket Association continued its regular season action at Haynes Ovals with the Pacesetters defeating the Westerns. The Western batted first and scored 133 runs. The Pacesetters replied in their innings by scoring 136 runs. 

On Sunday, St Agnes defeated St Albans by seven wickets. Batting first, St Albans scored 96 runs. The top scorers were Girginand Ganpat with 37 runs and Brent Fullerton 20 runs. Bowling for St Agnes, Jagnauth Jagroo had three wickets and Gary Brathwaite two wickets.

St Agnes scored 99 runs in 12.7 overs. Jagnauth Jagroo 38 runs and Compton James 27 runs. Greg Taylor and Girginand Ganpat each took one wicket for St Albans.
