Man shot in leg by police

A 33-year-old Carmichael Road man was shot in the leg by police while being detained for questioning in connection with a car theft.

Around 9.30am yesterday, Northeastern Division officers were on patrol in Okra Hill when they saw a vehicle being stripped.

The officers attempted to arrest the man, as they suspected the car was stolen, but police said he resisted violently. During the struggle, the suspect was shot in the thigh.He was taken to hospital where he remains in stable condition and under police guard.

• TWO Ridgeland Park men, ages 21 and 22, were detained in connection with a shop break-in that took place on Tuesday.

At around 2.40pm yesterday, officers from the Southern Division, acting on a tip, executed a search warrant on a home and found a number of electronic items and car parts.

The electronics were reportedly stolen from a business on Robinson Road over the weekend.

The two men are currently being questioned.

• SELECTIVE Enforcement Unit officers, acting on a tip, went to Woods Alley yesterday where they discovered a high-powered firearm.

Around the same time, Southern Division officers confiscated a gun in Pinewood Gardens.

The officers, also acting on a tip, went to Palm Street where they discovered the weapon, a shotgun.

No one has been arrested in connection with either matter.

• THREE men, ages 17, 27 and 28, were detained by police in connection with a firearm find.

At around 11pm yesterday, Mobile Division Officers searched a home in Wilson Track, where they found a handgun and ammunition.

The men are currently being questioned.

• POLICE are asking the public to help them solve two separate armed robberies which took place on Tuesday.

The first took place around 9.30pm while the victim was standing in front of his McKinney Avenue home.

An armed man robbed him of a cell phone before fleeing on foot.

Then, at around 11pm, another man was standing outside his Bamboo Town home, when two men armed with a shotgun robbed him of a cell phone and jewellery before fleeing on foot.

Police say investigations are ongoing.
