GB Shipyard beats 2013 expectations

The Grand Bahama Shipyard’s (GBS) chairman and chief executive applauded his employees at their annual review and Christmas luncheon last week, saying: “We are doing more than we ever dreamed of.

“We’re exceeding not only our expectations but the expectations of our bosses, too,” added Carl-Gustaf Rotkirch.

In addition to congratulating his staff on their hard work and dedication, more than 650 employees were treated to a free Christmas lunch that was served by the senior management. Two sets of meals were served: one for employees on the day shift, and one for employees on the evening shift.

While speaking to the staff, Mr Rotkirch went over the achievements that the Shipyard has notched this year. He added that it had exceeded the revenues expected in the budget for six months this year.

Additionally, the number of incidents has decreased, employees have gotten the chance to undergo international training, and customers’ feedback on their services has been positive.

Ramadan McKenzie, a multi-trader employee, who works as an electrician and rigger at GBS, said: “It’s another great year. Over the last five years this new team has really taken us to a new level. I’ve been here since the beginning and I am very proud of what we have accomplished. We need to thank this team for making us succeed.”

The Shipyard is well booked for 2014, with a large slate of work to begin in a few weeks.

Mr Rotkirch added: “I know with this team we can look forward to meeting our new goals, and continuing to be the number one ship repair facility in this region.”
