WEEK seven of the Commonwealth American Football League featured three games on the schedule and the first week with games played simultaneously in New Providence and Grand Bahama.

At the Grand Bahama Sports Complex, the V8 Fusion Stingrays moved to 4-1 with a 38-8 win over the Rebound Boys Club Falcons while at the DW Davis field, the Orry J Sands Pros moved to a league leading 5-1 in an overtime thriller with a 36-30 victory over the BaOilCo Jets.

Devaughn Bain caught the go ahead touchdown on third and goal and the Pros’ defence held on the ensuing possession to end the overtime period and the game with a sack to seal the win.

Trailing 22-6 in the second half, the Jets scored 16 unanswered points in regulation to force overtime.Jamaal Coleby scored the first of his three rushing touchdowns early in the first quarter with an eight yard run. Bain caught the ensuing conversion to give the Pros an 8-0 lead.

Following an interception backed against their own goal line, the Pros’ defence delivered a goal line stand to keep the 8-0 lead.

Coleby would score again just two possessions later and Bain would catch his second conversion of the game for a 16-0 lead. The Pros botched an opportunity to go ahead three scores before halftime when they muffed a punt, which the Jets recovered in the redzone. They were able to convert on a short yardage run for their first touchdown of the day and a 16-6 score at the half.

In the third quarter, the Pros scored on a quarterback sneak, but failed to score on the conversion for a 22-6 lead. The Jets scored on the ground with a touchdown run from Dandron Wilson and trailed 22-14 early in the fourth quarter.

With under two minutes left to play, Jets quarterback Philmon Rolle connected with Jamaal Butler for a 30 yard touchdown pass and they added a successful conversion to tie the game at 22.

Following a Pros punt, the Jets would attempt a game winning field goal, however Wilson’s kick fell short and the game headed to overtime.

In overtime, the Jets would strike first, with Rolle and Butler connecting for their second touchdown of the day on a 20-yard touchdown pass. A successful conversion gave them a 30-22 lead.

With the Pros on offence, Ashley Roberts came up with a clutch catch on third down to sustain the drive and Coleby scored from three yards out for his third rushing touchdown of the day. He added the conversion on a run to tie the game at 30.

The Pros would open the second overtime with possession and scored on the touchdown pass to Bain just before their defence sealed the win. The short-handed Pros had several players play on both sides of the ball.

Wide receivers Roberts and Bain both caught interceptions on defence. Jamaal Scavella and Ian Symonette played virtually every snap with Scavella splitting time between wide receiver and defensive back and Symonette rotating on the offensive and defensive line. It was the third win for the Pros in the season series against the Jets.

The league will break for the holidays and return to action in January to wind down the regular season and head into February’s playoffs.
