AMATEUR

BOXING SHOW

CHAMPION Amateur Boxing Club is scheduled to hold its 18th annual Ray Minus Sr End of Year Amateur Boxing Tournament, recognising the legends of the ring - former Bahamian boxing greats.

The event will be an evening of explosive and exciting competition on December 25 (Christmas Day) at the Platinum Sports Entertainment Centre on Dowdeswell St and Christie Ave. Box-off starts at 8pm. It will feature boxers from the Inagua Amateur Boxing Club, Freeport Amateur Boxing Club and the New Providence Amateur Boxing Club.

The main attraction is expected to be a match between Keiron Knowles and Colin Johnson. Additionally, nine other matches are all set to take place.

Awards will be presented to the most improved boxer, most outstanding boxer, best fight of the tournament, boxer of the year award and the Ray Minus Sr Trophy. All amateur boxers and boxing clubs are welcome to participate.

BFFL ELECTIONS

THE Bahamas Flag Football League (BFFL) will be conducting elections to select the remaining four of the six-member team on its inaugural executive board. The election date is set for Tuesday, January 14, 2014 and Saturday, January 18, 2014.  Times and venue will be announced at a later date.

Voting is open to any and all members of all registered teams of the 2013 season. Running for president are Obie Roberts (RBC Lions), Darren Turner (RBC Lions) and Jayson Clarke (OJS Spartans). Charles Johnson (BWF Pink Foxes) and John-Marc Nutt (SA Ravens) are vying for vice president. The position of special projects officer is being contested by Jayde Knowles (BWF Pink Foxes) and Chevar Rolle (BTC Avengers) and the candidates for public relations officer are Charles Johnson (BWF Pink Foxes) and Bianca Lee. Jamaal Stubbs (Predators) was already elected unopposed during the nomination for treasurer as was Omar Wilkinson (OJS Spartans) for secretary.

ORANGE BOWL

A number of Bahamian players are participating in the Junior Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida this week. On Monday in the boys’ 14 qualification 3rd round, Andrew Maura lost 1-6, 2-6 to Felipe Hildalgo of the United States. Today, in the boys’ 12 singles 1st round, Jacobi Bain is slated to play Benjamin Heynold of Great Britain and Ahmad Thompson is to face Steven Sun of the USA. Also, Gabrielle Donaldson will take on Anastasia Kulikova of Russia in the girls’ 14 singles 1st round.
