North Long Island offers early Christmas joy

FATHER CHESTER Burton, Rector of Anglican Churches in Long Island, and the praying warriors who accompany him every fortnight in St Peter’s Parish, began their Christmas celebration early this year.

The parish was given fuel for their social outreach; gas tanks were donated to parishioners with the assistance of Father Addison Turnquest, a native Long Islander who continues to send miscellaneous bread basket items for church outreach.

Father Burton said the outreach would not be possible without the generous assistance of Father Addison Turnquest during these difficult and challenging economic times. Scotia Bank in Stella Maris also partnered with the Anglican Church in this gift distribution. A gift box was placed in the bank by branch manager Winifred Curry.

The church outreach started in Seymour’s and ended in Millers, Long Island. Over 40 shopping bags loaded with groceries were distributed. The women who travelled the distance represented each church in the parish. Anglican Church Women Conductor Floret Adderley and Delores Miller provided music during the journey, singing various Christmas Carols to the enjoyment of the many patriarchs and matriarchs of the North Long Island community. Father Burton and the vestry continue to thank Father Turnquest for his kind gesture ensuring that the Christmas joy is experienced on the island of his birthplace.
