Two arrested after armed robbery

A QUICK response by Mobile Division officers led to the apprehension of two men just moments after an armed robbery on Monday.

The men – one a 36-year-old of Graham Drive, and the other a 33-year-old of Jubilee Crest – are currently being questioned as police feel they have information that could be valuable to the investigation.

The incident took place just before 7pm, when police were notified that two men had been held up and robbed of cash and cellphones while walking on Bethel Avenue near the six-legged roundabout.

A team of mobile officers were on the scene within minutes, and quickly detained the two men now in custody.

It is believed this case may be connected to several other armed robberies.

Police also reported recovering two firearms on the streets of New Providence on Monday.

Just before 9am, Mobile Division officers, acting on a tip, when to Washington Street North, where they found a handgun along with a quantity of ammunition.

Then, around noon, officers from the Firearm Tracing and Investigation Unit, also acting on information from a source, went to Woods Alley and found a handgun and ammunition.

No arrests were reported, but police say investigations are ongoing.
