POLICE are investigating five separate incidents after a spate of armed robberies this weekend.
Last night, police urged the public to exercise caution over the holiday period.
All five robberies took place on Friday.
In the first incident, a woman was sitting in her car at Christie Avenue, Stapleton Gardens shortly after 3pm when she was robbed by three men armed with a handgun.
The culprits escaped in a tan coloured four-door sedan with her handbag.
The second incident occurred shortly after 8:30pm in Yellow Elder Gardens.
A woman was robbed by a man armed with a handgun as she stood in front of her home on Doyle Street. The gunman, who wore a grey sweat suit and a mask, stole an undisclosed amount of cash before he escaped on foot.
An hour later, police responded to an armed robbery at Royal Palm off Carmichael Road. A woman was robbed of an undisclosed sum of money by a masked man armed with a handgun. The woman had just arrived home when the incident occurred. The culprit, who wore short green pants, escaped on foot.
Police then responded to another incident shortly after 10pm at Jerome Avenue. Two women were robbed of their cash and two cell phones by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun. One culprit wore a black jacket, and the other a red shirt.
The last incident occurred shortly before midnight at Arawak Cay. A woman was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash by a man armed with a handgun.
On Friday, police also recovered a handgun in a garbage bin on Baillou Hill Road.

All female victims. Seems as though women are the main targets of robbery. My fellow females...please leave your ridiculously large handbags at home. Stop walking with your phones glued to your ear or in your hands texting. Be aware of your surroundings. Keep your money in your pockets and your keys in your hands. When you get home, before you get out of your car look around. Call someone from inside to come outside when you get there. Befriend your neighbors and alert them when you're heading home so that they can peep outside if you live alone.

CommonSense....You are soooo right. Christie Ave is next block form me. I have always carried a small bag over the shoulder, always wear pants with pockets that button or zip to keep keys, money, phone, etc. I see women all the time doing exactly as you state.

Five armed robberies in a single day in an island 21 miles by seven! How much longer does government think that we can continue in this vein before America and the rest of the world slaps a serious health warning on Bahamas as a tourist destination? How much longer are ordinary Bahamians going to be terrorized by these armed thugs? Why does The Bahamas keep voting for the same failed and weak politicians?

It seems like during election time, all the politicians did was got in bed with the big crime bosses. Now that the money set aside to fund such relationship (campaigning money) by means of giving various jobs (road clean up etc) has ran out, the criminals that once were in bed sleeping are now wide awake and doing the only thing they know best in doing.

Those are the robberies that was reported, I know two people who was robbed a male and female. They didn't report it because they felt like it was a waste of time. The cops are real lazy to find anything or anyone, but when they do the broken system let's the criminals right back out.

I can understand that. I got robbed two months ago and reported it. Waste of time. I did the whole "go to the sketch artist" thing and never heard back from them after. They never even sent the sketch for me to verify. Between the police force not taking matters seriously and the court system consistently allowing murderers to be out on bail, crime is never going to go down
