Roaring 20s event helps Humane Society

KICKING OFF their upcoming 90th anniversary in style, the Bahamas Humane Society hosted the Great Gatsby Party, transporting their 200 guests back in time to an era of glitz and glamour.

Adorned in 1920s attire, guests congregated at the historical Jacaranda House, where they enjoyed a fun-filled evening of mingling, dancing, delicious food, wine and cocktails.

This beautiful oasis in the middle of downtown Nassau provided a stunning setting with chic dcor from Jim Whitehead of Nassau Florists and elaborate lighting by Spectrum, complete with a large paw print in the pool.

Guests were greeted by the sounds of the incredibly talented jazz band, Vise Versa, and served a variety of delectable beverages, including Young’s Champagne and Wine’s exquisite French Henriot, exotic cocktails, wines, and spirits provided by Bristol Cellars.

Delicious hors d’oeuvres and the main course were prepared with food donated from Bahamas Food Services by COB master Chef Ellie Saunders, and served by the College’s Hotel Training School students.

Throughout the evening, guests bid on a silent auction featuring a diverse selection of prizes some of which included lunch with various politicians, vacations, meals, jewellery, accessories, and even a pet portrait.

Elaborate gift baskets of toys for dogs and cats were a hot attraction at the silent auction table as animal lovers bid on Christmas gifts for their beloved pets.

“We are incredibly thankful to so many corporate entities and individuals that came together and donated their time, services and products to make the evening such a great success. It was a wonderful night, the weather held brilliantly and everyone had a marvelous time,” said BHS president Kim Aranha.

Ann Marie Davis, wife of Deputy Prime Minister Philip Davis and part of the Great Gatsby’s organising committee, was present in her elegant 1920s attire.

“We are indeed lucky to have such amazing support towards a great cause,” she said.

The Bahamas Humane Society is the only shelter in New Providence, and tries to assist any animal in need of help. They have an extensive adoption programme and urge the public to adopt from the shelter before buying a dog or cat.
