Major starts season with victory

Jay Major celebrates his victory.

JAY Major started off the year on the right foot, winning the first race as the Bahamas Cycling Federation kicked off the 2013 Cycling season on Saturday with the New Providence Cycling Association’s 30 mile road race.
 The race was highly contested as there where a mix of elite cyclist, masters and novice competing. Although the weather was cool and a bit windy the cyclist performed well.
 The race started off fast and this created an early separation between the skill, seasoned and novice.

The lead pelaton was made up of Major, Mark Holowesko, Anthony ‘Biggie’ Colebrook, Rob Rothwell, Vince Turnquest, Justin Minnis and Java Russell, a young talent cyclist who has started off well.


The race saw several attempt break away from the pelaton, but Holowesko and Turnquest brought Russell back and the race continue with a high pace discouraging anybody else from attempting to break away.
 It came down to a group sprint at a speed of 30 miles with Major out-sprinting Colebrook for the victory.

 1st, Jay Major - JAR, 1hr.32mins. 2nd - Anthony ‘Biggie’ Colebrook, Warriors, 1hr.32mins.01sec; 3rd - Justin Minnis, 1hr 32mins.05sec; 4th - Mark Holowesko; 5th - Vince Turnquest, Freeport, 1hr 32mins.11sec; 6th - Java Russell, 1hr 34mins 49sec; 7th - Rob Rothwell, Potcake, 1hr 34mins 51sec; 8th - Richard Horton, Potcake, 1hr 38mins 00sec.
