BOXING

NATIONAL TEAM

THE Amateur Boxing Federation of the Bahamas has selected its national team that will represent the Bahamas at the Presidential Cup Boxing Tournament that will be held in Santiago, Dominican Republic. The event will run from February 18-22.

The team is comprised of boxers Carl Hielde, Rashield Williams, Ronald Woodside and Godfrey Strachan. Andre Seymour is the head coach. He will be assisted by Kayla Johnson. The team manager is George Turner.

KNOCKOUT TOURNEY

THE Carmichael Boxing Club, headed by national amateur boxing coach Andre Seymour, will host their first amateur boxing tournament on Saturday at the National Boxing Gymnasium at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex. The event, which will be under the theme: ‘Featuring the New Generation,’ will begin at 4pm. Boxers from various local clubs will be participating.

NPVA FINALS

THE New Providence Volleyball Associatiohn will continue their best-of-five championship series tonight at the DW Davis Gymnasium.

In the ladies series, the defending champions Scottsdale Vixens hold a 1-0 lead after winning game one on Sunday 27-25, 25-22 and 26-24 over the pennant winning Johnson’s Lady Truckers. In that game, Cheryse Bain led all scorers with 12 points, all of which were kills. Tamaz Thompson assisted with two blocks and two aces, Laval Sands 6six digs, Latondra Brown nine receptions and Tia Wilson 16 assists.

For the Truckers, Davia ‘Karma’ Moss led with 10 points (four kills and six aces), Tia Charlow completed three blocks and 11 receptions, Anastacia Sands-Moultrie had six digs and Laverne Symonette finished with 32 assists.

In men’s match, it took five tough sets for the Technicians to put away the Scotia Defenders 14-25, 25-18, 25-17, 23-25 and 15-13 to snatch a 1-0 lead.

Renaldo Knowles led all scorers with 26 points, Arison Wilson finished with three blocks and three aces, Eric Johnson had five digs and 33 receptions and Audril Farquharson completed the night with 49 assists.

For the Defenders, Shedrick Forbes and Endierich Rahming led with 13 points, Endierick Rahming had seven kills with three blocks and three aces. Kurtwood Greene Jr finished with three digs and 13 receptions. Tonny Simon held off for 29 assists.

BASKETBALL

NPBA ACTION

IN the two games played on Monday night at the CI Gibson Gymnasiujm as the New Providence Basketball Association’s regular season start to wind down, the Real Deal Shockers pounded the Cleaners 104-83 and the Police Crimestoppers knocked off the BTC Digitals 109-98.

Devon Brennen scored 25 points with 10 rebounds to lead four other players in double figures for the Shockers. Corey Williams had 18 points with 10 rebounds; Floyd Armbrister had 16 points, eight assists and seven rebounds; Randy Ferguson chipped in with 14 points and nine rebounds and Ahmon Baker had 10 points. For the Cleaners, Cruz Simon scored a game high 26 points with 16 rebounds; Lenny Oscar was held to 23 points with eight rebounds and seven assists and Renardo Baillou had 21 points and 10 rebounds.

The NPBA will complete its regular season with the final two games on tap tonight. In the 7:30 pm opener, the Pyramid Food Rockets will take on the defending champions Commonwealth Bank Giants. The 9 pm nightcap will be played between the Y-Care Wreckers and the Mail Boat Cybots.

The first round of the playoffs is all set to start on Monday. Matches are: 7:30pm Police Crimestoppers vs Woodside Petroleum Conquerors. 9pm Commonwealth Bank Giants vs PJ Stingers.

BFA ACTION

THE Bahamas Football Association’s senior league action will continue tonight at the Roscoe Davies Developmental Center at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex with just one game on tqap. At 6:30 pm, the College of the Bahamas will play the Dynamos.
