Grand Lucayan in conference boost

THE Grand Lucayan is reporting a year-overyear increase in conference room nights booked, highlighted by a recent 4,000 room night event.

High-season conference events reached a peak at the resort on February 10, when the Grand Lucayan welcomed a four-day conference with more than 1,000 participants, led by Italian telecommunications leader, 3 Italia.

Grand Lucayan general manager, Ben Davis, said: “Our seamless handling of an international telecommunications conference such as the 3 Italia event, which comprised more than 4,000 room nights, is a great indication of what Grand Lucayan, and Grand Bahama Island itself, is capable of.

“We’re confident that with our renovated facilities and professional team, we’ll be seeing more and more conferences of such scale.”

The Grand Lucayan is expected to see more conference activity next week, as it is set to host the Bahamas International Investment and Business Forum on February 20-21. The hotel boasts of 90,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meetings space, including one of the largest indoor ballroom facilities in the Caribbean.

Last October, the government announced a major partnership arrangement between itself, Hutchison Whampoa and the Canadian-based Sunwing Travel Group to reopen the Reef Village, which will be leased as a five-star all inclusive resort by Blue Diamond Hotels and Resorts, an affiliate of the Sunwing Travel Group – one of the largest travel conglomerates in Canada.
