Surgeon in court over road deaths

A SURGEON charged in connection with the traffic deaths of two motorcyclists must wait nearly four months before learning when he will stand trial.

Dr Larano Knowles, 33, a surgeon at Princess Margaret Hospital, appeared before Magistrate Jeanine Weech-Gomez on charges of killing in the course of dangerous driving in connection with the deaths of George Outten, 19, and Roscoe Seymour, 20.

However, the matter did not commence because Knowles’ attorney, Elliot Lockhart, was experiencing health issues that needed attention.

The magistrate adjourned the matter to May 28 for a status hearing, when the court is expected to learn from Mr Lockhart whether he will be able to commence trial on the following day, May 29.

Dr Knowles was not required to enter a plea to the charges at his arraignment in October last year, when he was granted bail.
