Five shot in two attacks at weekend

FIVE men are recovering in hospital after being shot in two separate incidents over the weekend.

The latest incident took place around 1:45am Saturday.

Police say four men were standing outside a business establishment on Cordeaux Avenue when they were approached and shot by a man armed with a shotgun.

The men were taken to hospital where they are listed in serious, but stable condition.

Police are following significant leads into the matter.

Almost five hours earlier, around 9:30pm on Friday, police say a man was at Allen Drive off Carmichael Road when he got into an argument with another man and was shot in his forehead.

He was taken to hospital where his condition is unknown.

Police say they are following significant leads into both shooting incidents and active investigations are continuing.

In other crime news, three people are in police custody after they were discovered with 100 packets of marijuana during a routine traffic stop.

According to reports around 7:35pm on Friday, officers involved in “Operation Blitz” were on routine patrol on Adderley Street off Bernard Road when they saw three people, two men and a woman, inside a Honda Civic acting suspiciously.

Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered packets of what was believed to be marijuana with an estimated street value of  $470.

Acting on information officers conducted a search of the suspects’ homes and discovered cultivated pots of suspected marijuana plants, with four and a half ounces of suspected marijuana with an estimated street value of $270.

The suspects, a 32-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, both of Johnson Road, with a 17-year-old boy of Nassau Village, were taken into custody.

Active police investigations continue.
