GIANTS ADVANCE

THE defending champions Commonwealth Bank Giants have secured their berth in their divisional final of the New Providence Basketball Association’s best-of-five semifinal series after they completed a two-game sweep over the PJ’s Stingers at CI Gibson Gym Monday night.

The Giants pulled off a 105-96 victory to end their first round best-of-three playoffs as Denykco Bowles led the attack with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Jeffrey Henfield also had 22 points, while Gamaliel Rose added 21 points with nine rebounds, Michael Bain chipped in with 20 points and Ricardo Pierre finished with 14 points.

For the Stingers, Tavares Roker had a game high 26 points with seven rebounds, Jason Mitchell had 20 points with five rebounds, Bathlette LaFleur 16 points and nine rebounds and Kevin Hinsey 14 points and nine rebounds in a losing effort.

In the other game played, the Police Crimestoppers evened their series with the Woodside Petroleum Conquerors with a 109-99 decision.

Jeremy Hutchinson scored 27 points with eight rebounds to lead the attack. Dion McPhee had 24 points and 10 rebounds, Vernon Stubbs 16 points and Mitchell Johnson had 15 points and nine rebounds.

Able Joseph also had 28 points with nine rebounds and eight assists to pace the Conquerors. Bernard Bonamy and Christoff Stuart both had 14 points and Rashad Bain contributed 13 in the loss.
