THE DEFINING moment in DJ Todd Stylez’s life came after watching a performance by the late DJ AM in 2007.
He considers the international DJ as one of his idols. “I think of all the DJs I’ve see, my style is most similar to his. He was amazing.”

“After watching DJ AM, that sort of changed my whole perspective about deejaying. He was able to take the art form to a level where technical prowess was just as important as music selection. It pushed the envelope further, and DJ’s had to become more creative and business savvy. I think it changed the game for the better. I know it changed me,” he told In Ya Ear:
The Bahamian born DJ is a known face in Nassau for his appearances in Aura nightclub. He now resides in Florida and is fast becoming known as one of Miami’s most talented and versatile assets.
Even at the age of 24, DJ Todd said he’s been shaking dance floors for almost a decade, even boasting a radio show and numerous residencies from before he finished high school.
DJ Todd has had many great experiences so far in his career, but the most memorable was an opportunity to spin with DJ Jazzy Jeff.

“I’ve always been a big fan of his, and finally getting to work with him was an amazing experience. A close second moment, was opening for rapper Flo-rida last year in Miami. He brings such energy to his shows; it’s amazing,” said DJ Todd, who has played in Washington, New York, LA, Chicago, Miami, all major US markets. DJ Todd said every city has a different flavour and different taste in music. What they all have in common, he said, is that they all like to party.
“This year my group ‘Prom Night’ is planning a North American tour, and probably a small European tour before the end of the Summer. I’m really excited about that,” said DJ Todd.
In the Bahamas, DJ Todd said he plays a lot more cool Reggae and Hip-hop tracks to cater to the local market.

“Internationally everything is dance oriented. Especially in cities like New York and Miami; I’m doing much more eclectic sets. I consider myself an Electro/Open Format DJ so for the most part my sets are going to be house oriented with a few other cool influences sprinkled in,” said DJ Todd.
DJ Todd has played for several large events such as MB Fashion Week. His biggest event to date was headlining the official 2013 Las Olas New Years Eve Concert. “It was an amazing experience and I got to perform for 6000 of my closest friends,” he said.
DJ Todd said the work never ends for him, but when he is afforded some free time, he enjoys spending the time at home. “The work never ends because if you’re not actually at a gig, you’re with an agent or a manager planning out an event, or working on production. Then there are photo shoots and charity commitments as well.” He said he also owns a boutique-advertising agency called Style One.
“I’m actually happy with the progress being made in the Bahamian music industry right now. I’ve known for a while that there was a lot of legitimate talent in the Bahamas. I’m happy the rest of the world is finally recognizing that now,” said DJ Todd.
Weekly you can find DJ Todd tearing it up at any of Miami’s top nightclubs, adding his distinct style to a major fashion show or even complimenting a chart topping artist.
