IN AN effort to promote healthy lifestyles, the Junior Achievement company Legacy hosted the 3rd Annual Rep Ya Cause fun run/walk event.

The event was spearheaded by the company to help Bahamians make better choices that will improve their health.

Attendees participated in a 3 mile/5K walk. There were also on-site health screenings conducted by local physicians.

Fun and educational literature on making healthy lifestyle choices was also available during the event.

Health education was provided in the form of pamphlets. Representatives from disease awareness organisations were also present to give information on diseases that are plaguing the health of many Bahamians.

“You can possibly prevent those diseases which are prevalent in our country such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart conditions and cancer. A healthy lifestyle supports a better physical and mental state of being,” said D’Andra Greenslade, executive advisor of the Deloitte Junior Achievers.

“The dynamic achievers of the Legacy company believe that age should not restrict anyone from establishing a healthy lifestyle. We wanted to spark interest in healthy living and disease awareness and encourage participants to value their fitness and well-being,” she told Tribune Health.

Ms Greenslade said part proceeds from the event will be donated to major causes and disease awareness organisations affecting the country.

“We wanted to promote healthy living for our people, communities and ultimately the Bahamas. We also want to do our part in building a healthier nation by giving financial assistance to those established charitable organisations that help to positively impact the community.”

Ms Greenslade said one of the main goals of the Rep Ya Cause initiative is to teach students the importance of corporate social responsibility by raising funds for charitable organisations and demonstrate that age does not restrict anyone from establishing a healthy lifestyle.
