Rockets, Cleaners get wins

THE Pyramid Food Rockets and the Double R Services Limited Cleaners were the latest victors in the New Providence Basketball Association as the league continued its regular season at the CI Gibson Gym on Monday night.

While the Rockets prevailed with a 98-95 decision over the BTC Digitals, the Cleaners stunned the Mail Boat Cybots 91-89.

Demetri Mackey led a balanced scoring attack with 21 points on 9-of-15 from the field, 2-of-2 from the three-point line and 1-of-3 from the free throw line in 20 minutes. He also pulled down seven rebounds.

Pyramid Food, however, saw Adorn Charlow produce another big night as he turned up for a shot at the most valuable player honours with 20 points and a game high 16 rebounds in about 36 minutes of play. Both Tameko Moxey and Rashad McKenzie both had 15 points with six and eight rebounds respectively and Taureen Forbes had 12 points and seven rebounds.

In a losing effort, Lorenzo Carter played the entire 40 minutes to finish with a game high 38 points and six rebounds. He shot 10-of-26 from the field, 4-of-13 from the three-point line and 14-of-16 from the foul line. His brothers Dannon Carter had 18 points with six rebounds and Barry Carter had 15 points and eight rebounds.

The Rockets led 30-17 after the first quarter and 45-43 at the half. The game was tied at 73 at the end of the third.

Cleaners 91, Cybots 89

Lenny Oscar, who is having an MVP type season, exploded for a game high 33 points with 15 points for another double-double as he played the entire game, shooting 13-of-27 from the field, 2-of-7 from the three-point line and 5-of-8 from the free throw line.

Simon Cruz, just shy by one minute of playing the entire game as well, had 30 points on 11-of-23 from the field, 4-of-10 from the three-point line and 4-of-5 from the foul line. He had a game high 21 points. Stevenson Jacques ended up with 14 points and five rebounds.

For the Cybots, Eugene Bain scored 29 points on 12-of-24 from the field, 5-of-6 from the three-point line and 5-of-16 from the free throw line. Ernest Saunders had 17 points and Ahmad Bootle helped out with 10. Jermaine Storr scored nine and both Brian Bain and Garvin Lightbourne had eight apiece.

The Mail Boat opened a 20-16 lead after the first quarter, trailed 47-46 at the half, but went ahead 65-62 at the end of the third.

NOTE: The NPBA is scheduled to be back in action tonight with a double header at the CI Gibson Gym.
