BAHAMIAN rapper Sasha Dunn is gearing up for the second release of his mix-tape Hazy Dayz & Crazy Nightz this month. The revised edition of the mix-tape was released digitally in December. The hard copy will be available in stores the end of the month.

Hazy Dayz & Crazy Nightz was first released in May 2012.

However, the original version did not follow the standard structure of mix-tapes, which usually features a DJ who puts their own spin to the tracks. This did not happen with the first release which warranted a redo, the artist said.

DJ Chronic was selected to host the mix-tape, as he is one of the top entertainers on the island, Sasha Dunn said.

The mix-tape depicts the good and bad side of life in Nassau.

“There is a combination of sensual songs and those that tell more serious stories,” Sasha said.

Other than DJ Chronic’s feature, what is also different from the previous Hazy Dayz & Crazy Nightz, is an additional four songs.

“The first mix-tape had 18 songs. This one now has 22 tracks. I cut three songs in particular, because they only boast my accomplishments. I replaced them with songs that are more socially conscious. Those songs will get people thinking deeply about the things that are going on in our country,” he said.

“I like to make ‘edutainment’. I like to educate people through my music,” he told In Ya Ear.

“The mix-tape goes from light-hearted, to upbeat, and then to the more serious songs. I did it this way because although there are party tracks on the mix-tape, I wanted listeners to also focus on serious issues such as crime.”

Sasha Dunn and his team will tour the mix-tape, introducing the music to the Family Islands.

“We will attend different events and perform some of the songs off the mix-tape so that people can become familiar with them,” he said.

The story behind Hazy Dayz & Crazy Nightz will also become the plot of a movie, scheduled to hit the big screen towards the end of the year. The movie, which carries the same name, is in the early stages of production.

Fans will get a closer glimpse into the life of Sasha Dunn, who is the author of the script.

Casting for Hazy Dayz & Crazy Nightz movie, begins next month and shooting will commence mid-summer. He intends to submit the movie in the annual Bahamas International Film Festival.

“The story is about my start, and the progress I have made over the years.”

Sasha Dunn introduced himself to the music scene five years ago.  Some of his work has been influenced by a number of international musicians including Bob Marley, Fela Kuti, Biggie Smalls, Tupac Shakur and Buju Banton.

Sasha also has his eyes set on international borders to promote himself and his music. At some point this year he will travel to the United Kingdom to shoot the video for his single “Adfab”.
