ON Saturday, JBLN Baseball League opened another exciting, fun-filled and competitive season of baseball.

The day started with a church service at Holy Cross Anglican Parish on Soldier Road where Fr Norman Lightbourn gave an enlightening and provocative charge to all in attendance.

The service was then followed by a procession of the teams to Freedom Farm park where the celebrations continued.

In attendance were Deputy Prime Minister Philip “Brave” Davis, Minister of Sports Daniel Johnson, MP for Elizabeth Ryan Pinder, Bahamas Baseball Federation president Craig “Salty” Kemp, who all brought remarks. Johnson also threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Also in attendance were retired Major League players that made a presentation to the league.

Following the opening ceremony was an All- Star game featuring players from the 11-12 division which was carried live on Cable 12. The Commissioner’s team won over the President’s team 6-5.

For the first time JBLN is now introducing girls softball. Their inaugural game was played on Saturday that featured the Tiger Lilies and the Yellow Elders. There are four teams that make up that division, bringing the total number of teams at Freedom Farm to 42.
