THE POLICE yesterday said they have decided to increase their patrols and community presence in response to the botched web shop heist over the weekend.

Clayton Fernander, Superintendent of the Southeastern Division, said they want to ensure that all businesses and their patrons are well protected, especially after an Island Game location on Cowpen Road off Faith Avenue was robbed.

He said: “Yes, we are doing more – increased visibility with the police being present in the community. It removes the fear from the citizens; once they see police present, they feel safe.

“We want to protect the business owners in the area and build a relationship with them.”

Meanwhile, officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Sunday’s web shop robbery. The Tribune understands that a gaming board inspector is in custody in connection with the incident.

Paul Rolle, Central Detective Unit chief, confirmed that a 33-year-old man was assisting them with their investigation but he would not say where the man is employed.

He added that officials were searching for a woman who was initially thought to be a victim, and another man they believe was involved.

Mr Rolle also said the police officer who was injured during the incident was shot by an ICS security officer.

Police believe the officer may have been involved in the attempted heist.
