BODYBUILDING

ATHLETES OFF TO

ARNOLD CLASSIC

THE Bahamas Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (BBFF) has announced that it has granted Dawnita Fry and Jimmy Norious the opportunity to compete in the prestigious Arnold Amateur slated to be held in Columbus, Ohio, February 28 to March 3.

Bodybuilders and fitness professionals from around the world all converge on Columbus and battle for a chance to attain one of the greatest achievements in the sport of bodybuilding and fitness to become a professional.

The federation said it is pleased to afford both Fry and Norius the opportunity to compete. Fry, a fitness champion, is a school teacher by profession and bodybuilding champion Norius is a personal trainer. They are following in the footsteps of some other noted Bahamian IFBB pros like Joel Stubbs, Gena Mackey, Natasha Brown and Jay Darling.

CHAMPION

BOXING SHOW

CHAMPION Amateur Boxing Club has announced plans to host its first amateur boxing show for the year. The Dean’s Towing Boxing Show is scheduled to be held on Friday and Saturday, starting at 6pm on both days at the Wulff Road Boxing Square.

The main event will be between Don Rolle and Brian Capron. Other matches featured are Christopher Fox vs Ashton Sturrup, Gabrielle Rolle vs Donovan Taylor. There will also be five other matches on tap.

Awards will be presented for the best fight, most outstanding boxer, most improved boxer and the Dean’s Towing Award for the boxer of the tournament. All amateur boxing clubs are welcome to participate.

GSSSA ACTION

THE Government Secondary Schools Sports Association continued its basketball regular season with the following results posted on Monday:

Jr Girls - SC McPherson def. CH Reeves 17-4.

Jr Boys - SC McPherson def. CH Reeves as Sherman Marshall scored 13 points in the win. Johnacy Augustine had a game high 15 in the loss.

DW Davis def. Anatol Rodgers 70-20 as Charles Cooper scored a game high 15 points.

Sr Girls - CR Walker def. RM Bailey 21-7 as Australe scored six points.

Sr Boys - RM Bailey def. Government High 57-52 as Strachan and Mackey had 12 points each.

CC Sweeting def. CV Bethel 72-13 as Strachan had a game high 22 points. Miller Thompson had 13 points in the loss.

VOLLEYBALL

NPVA POSTSEASON

WITH the regular season completed, the New Providence Volleyball Association is scheduled to begin its postseason at the DW Davis Gym with the best-of-three playoffs.

Friday’s schedule

7:30pm - Scottsdale Vixens vs Lady Techs (L)

9pm - National Fence Intruders vs Technician

The series will continue to play in the above order on regular game nights (Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays). Both men and women best-of-five championships will commence together immediately following the playoffs.

TENNIS

CORRECTION

BAHAMIAN Justin Roberts lost to the number one seed Russian Roman Nashatrykin, who is ranked 178 in ITF 46 and not 16, as reported in The Tribune on Tuesday. Also, Roberts advanced to the quarterfinals of doubles today with his partner Bart Van Liijsen by defeating the number four seeds Kareem Allaf (Syria) and Aayush Mintri (India) 57, 62, 10-5.

The Tribune apologises for the error.
