POLICE shot and killed a man in Abaco Wednesday night in what sources describe as a case of “mistaken identity.”

The incident took place around 7:45pm.

Police have remained tight lipped about the shooting and officers in Nassau as well as in Abaco referred all questions to Assistant Commissioner of Police Emrick Seymour. However, ACP Seymour was “unavailable for comment” for most of the day.

According to a short press release, officers, while on special duty police operations, were involved in a shooting incident in the Mudd Community in Abaco.

The shooting resulted in the death of a 35-year-old man.

Police have not released the identify of the victim, but sources say he is Job Munnings, also known as Mr Versatility.

Job, a father of two, was also an aspiring reggae artist.

Sources say Job was unarmed at the time of the shooting.

Investigations are continuing.

According to statistics released by Commissioner Greenslade there were six fatal shootings last year and 243 complaints filed against police officers. Of that number 128 were cases of assault. Nineteen cases were forwarded to the Tribunal, five were informally solved, 30 were withdrawn, six were found to be unsubstantiated, 15 were determined unfounded, eight were concluded for insufficient evidence and four officers were warned. The other matters are still being investigated.

In other crime news, police in Nassau are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the person or persons responsible for three robberies that occurred on Wednesday.

The first incident occurred around 5:45pm at Texaco Service Station on Baillou Hill Road.

Police say a male was approached by a man in a Honda Civic vehicle armed with a handgun who robbed him of a gold chain and sped off.

The second incident occurred around 7:45pm in the area of Wendy’s Restaurant on Mackey Street.

Police say a woman was approached by a man wearing dark shades and armed with a handgun. The suspect robbed her of a gold chain then fled on foot.

The final incident occurred around 8:10pm on Collins Avenue in the area of Centreville Primary School. According to reports a woman walking in the area was approached by a man armed with a handgun who robbed her of a cell phone then fled on foot.

All of these cases are being investigated.
