School security officer stabbed

POLICE are on the hunt for two men who stabbed a security officer while attempting to break into Government High School.

Police say the man was stabbed multiple times in the back when he caught the suspects breaking into the school.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance where his condition is unknown.

It happened around 11:45pm on Saturday.

Police are investigating and are appealing to members of the public who might have information to contact them at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.

A 43-year-old Mason’s Addition man is recovering in hospital after being shot in the chest on Saturday.

Police say the victim was in the area of Fort Fincastle around 1pm when he got into an argument with another man and was shot.

He was taken to hospital in a private vehicle where he is listed in stable condition.

Police are following significant leads in this matter, investigations continue.

In other crime news, five people, four men and one woman, were taken into police custody on Friday when they were found in possession of a quantity of suspected marijuana.

Police say officers of the Central Division executed a search warrant on a home at Lifebuoy Street off Sunlight Cottage and discovered the drugs.

At present, the estimated street value of the drugs is unknown. Investigations continue.

In two separate incidents on Friday, police removed two firearms from the streets of New Providence.

In the first incident a handgun was uncovered on a track road at Peter Street off East Street.

According to reports around 11:20 am officers were on routine patrol on Peter Street when they saw two men acting suspiciously.

It is reported that the men, on seeing the officers, fled the area through a nearby track road and eluded police.

Police conducted a search of the area where the men were and discovered the weapon.

In the second incident officers of the Mobile Division uncovered a handgun along with a quantity of ammunition at Sunlight Cottage.

According to reports around 6 pm officers of the Mobile Division were on routine patrol at Toote Shop Corner off East Street when they saw a man wearing a white shirt and camouflage trousers and armed with a firearm.

The suspect, on seeing the officers, fled the area and escaped police.

Officers checked the area where the suspect ran and recovered the firearm. Active police investigations continue.

Police are also questioning a 40 year old Philippino man in connection with an indecent assault investigation. Officers of the Central Detective Unit detained the man around 2.25pm on Friday.

It's absurd to put security offices on duty protection millions of dollars worth of property with only a night stick. Arm them with shotguns and other lethal weapons and give them a fighting chance. Many of them have been killed and severely injured because these criminals have big guns and ammo and will not hesitate to use them...We need to stop thinking like we are in the 40's and 50's because the reality is that we will have more dead if we continue to think the way we are..

The sad irony is that some of these "security officers" are not fit to be armed ... I know company that used illigal immigrants on their security detail ... how do you arm those?
