NASSAU-based businesses are reporting heavy demand and strong sales of Independence gear, accessories and paraphernalia leading up to the country’s 40th anniversary tomorrow.

Donna Bowe, a buyer for Party Land, told Tribune Business: “All the flags sold very well this year. I’m hoping that we will sell more balloons.

“We do have printed Independence balloons this year, so that is something new added to our balloons department. We have balloons, umbrellas, caps, visors, backpacks, flags, necklaces, pins,  bracelets, bottle openers, beach towels, magnets, patches, tattoos and car magnets. Right now I would say car flags have probably been the hottest seller.”

A Home Fabrics executive described this year’s Independence sales as “very positive”, telling Tribune Business: “We have had a good season, it’s been fairly decent. We have a full Independence line; flags shirts, bumper stickers, decorations, anything you’re looking for.

“The 40th certainly has been very positive. I think people have been very enthusiastic. Bahamians are proud to be Bahamian.”

Scott Farrington, manager of Sun Tee, the full service custom embroidery, screen printing and promotional products distributor, said this year’s Independence sales have been positive.

“We have had a positive response,” he added. “We have had a positive demand. It’s been well received, the people love the shirts and the designs we have created. We’re printing on demand. People can come in and get it on the spot if they want.”
