Tropical storm Chantal downgraded

By RASHAD ROLLE

TROPICAL storm warnings and alerts are no longer in effect for the Bahamas as Tropical Storm Chantal has been downgraded to a tropical wave according to Wayne Neely of the Department of Meteorology.

Nonetheless, Mr Neely noted, “remnants” of Chantall will continue to affect all of the Bahamas until the system completely leaves the area.

Mr Neely said: “Chantel right now is just a tropical wave. By early tomorrow, it should start impacting the northwestern Bahamas and the remnants of it will continue to affect all of the Bahamas. We are going to get a few brief, scattered showers, some gusty winds and possibly some thunderstorms but there are no more warnings or alerts being issued for the system.”

Mr Neely also cautioned small craft operators in the southern Bahamas to keep their boats on shore until the system has passed, which is expected to happen tomorrow.
