Shipyard to donation helps marching band

THANKS to a donation from the Grand Bahama Shipyard, the Grand Bahama Legends Marching Band can now fund their much-awaited trip to Sanford, Florida.

During a performance at Port Lucaya Marketplace, the GBS executive team came out to watch the band and help fulfil their travel needs.

“We are very appreciative of the donation,” said band leader Leslie McDonald. “We are a community band and every penny that we get allows us to help our members travel. This year we hope to take 50 to 60 band members with us to play and promote the Bahamas.”

The Legends Band is a regular at the shipyard’s annual fishing tournaments said Ed Pavey, GBS fishing tournament chairman and director of technical and planning at the yard.

“Mr McDonald and his members have played for us for three years now, they have never asked us for anything and have always come out to entertain our guests.

“I am thrilled the company has agreed to assist them with funds raised from this year’s fishing tournament.”
