Bimini Independence Day celebrations focus on new ferry

THE Resorts World Superfast ferry boat was a big part of the Bimini independence day celebrations this year, which drew impressive crowds for the 12-hour long festivities.

A local marching band led anyone interested in a procession down the dock for an open sea tour of the ferry, which houses an impressive 10 floors inside – equipped with sleeping quarters, slot machines, dining rooms, and a gaming floor.

Biminites came out in full force along with out of town guests, both Bahamian and otherwise, to tour the vessel and enjoy the food, fun and festivities on board, before being ferried back to mainland Bimini for another dose of independence celebrations at the Baseball Park.

Bouncing castles, plaiting of the maypole, nutritious eats, and tasty treats kept the children entertained until the sun went down and it was time for the adults to take over.

The evening kicked off with a fashion show as the crowds continued to pour in and libations poured up.

The vendors offered up all the essentials, from an assortment of conch chowders, macaroni, fried fish, barbecue chicken, to peas and rice cooked any way your heart desired – with conch, crab, or veggie style.

The desserts didn’t disappoint either, from guava duff, potato bread, tarts, cookies, cakes, cupcakes, and more.

Blissfully boisterous with bellies full, the dancing geared up with competitions from best 40th Independence Day dress to dance competitions to see who could showcase their best Conch Style, Roach Smash, and, of course, Wobble.

The winners of each walked away hands full with Resorts World Bimini offering up stocked gift bags.

The dancing, drinking, and delight continued well into the night where the 40th Independence celebrations concluded with live performances from Bahamian artists before capping it all off with a captivating display of fireworks.
