Men decline to testify in cop murder retrial

THREE men accused of murdering a police officer waived their right to testify in court yesterday.

In the retrial concerning the March 29, 1999, killing death of officer Jimmy Ambrose, Stephen “Die” Stubbs, Andrew Davis and Clinton Evans are accused of killing Mr Ambrose and attempting to murder officer Marcian Scott outside the now-closed Club Rock Disco.

Justice Roy Jones told the men that they could decline to testify, or give sworn evidence and be cross-examined during the trial, now in its seventh week.

The men chose not to testify.

The trial was delayed after Justice Jones noted that one juror had to be admitted to the hospital.

The case continues today with witnesses for the defence expected to take the stand.
