FREEPORT – Grand Bahama businessman Cleveland Duncombe is giving back to the community where he grew up by presenting a scholarship award every year to a deserving male student at South Andros.
Mr Duncombe, president and CEO of Candid Security, established the Candid Award four years ago to recognise the most improved male student at the South Andros High School.
This year’s recipient SAHS graduate Lamaron Sweeting received a $500 award to assist with his tertiary education.
“I decided that I would give back to the community that nurtured me so I established the Candid Award,” Duncombe said.
“This award is geared toward a native son of South Andros, and more specifically a Bahamian male student of the South Andros High School where I matriculated.”
The businessman said the award recipient has to demonstrate good academic ability, initiative, community, and social awareness.
The recipient must also have been accepted at the College of the Bahamas.
He has decided to expand the award to a Family Island as well.
Each year, he would select a Family Island in alphabetical order, in addition to his alumni.
Mr Duncombe travelled to South Andros and presented the Candid Award to Lamaron Sweeting during Speech Day and Awards ceremony held on June 13 at Calvary Way Baptist Church in the Bluff, South Andros.
Sweeting is a two-time Candid award recipient. He is expected to attend the College of the Bahamas during the fall semester to pursue studies in Electrical Engineering.
