FOUR men accused of committing two of the country’s most recent murders were arraigned yesterday.

Tristan Deveaux, 18, of Peter Street; Judson Mackey, 19, of Windsor Lane; Travis Curry, 25, of Lynden Pindling Estates and Herbert Miller, 28, of Nassau Village were brought to the magistrates’ court to face charges over two separate incidents.

Deveaux and Mackey appeared first before Deputy Chief Magistrate Carolita Bethell charged with murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.

It was claimed that on May 25 they murdered Shanrio Deveaux and were in possession of a Taurus .40 pistol and ammunition for the weapon.

On the day in question, in an alley between Thompson Lane and Strachan’s Corner, the victim was walking with another man and woman when he was approached by gunmen.

They shot him repeatedly about the body, he collapsed and was pronounced dead on arrival of EMS.

Both accused men were told the case would be fast tracked to the Supreme Court for trial through a VBI, set for July 29.

Deveaux’s attorney, Glendon Rolle, made allegations of police brutality against his client.

Mackey claimed the same happened to him while in police custody at the Central Detective Unit.

Deputy Chief Magistrate Bethell made a note of the complaint and ordered the accused to be seen by a physician.

In a separate arraignment, Curry and Miller faced a single charge of murder.

It was claimed that on May 22, the pair intentionally caused the death of Javon Glinton.

Glinton was standing in the road outside his Cordeaux Avenue home that evening when he was approached by the occupants of a silver coloured vehicle.

One gunman got out of the vehicle and opened fire, hitting Glinton in his upper body. Glinton attempted to run but collapsed at the scene and was pronounced dead by EMS personnel a short time later.

Curry and Miller will be served with their VBI on July 30.

Roberto Reckley, Curry’s attorney, made claims of police brutality against his client. Miller had no complaints.

The magistrate also noted this and ordered for a physician to examine Curry.
