Defence Force apprehends 128 Haitian migrants

A TOTAL of 128 undocumented Haitian migrants were transported to the capital after being apprehended by members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force on Saturday afternoon.

According to public relations officer Lieutenant Origin Deleveaux, a P-44 RBDF vessel intercepted a 35-foot Haitian sloop 13.6 nautical miles west of the Exuma Cays shortly after 3pm on Saturday.

A boarding team found 97 men, 19 women and 12 children aboard the wooden vessel.

Lt Deleveaux said: “The Haitian nationals appeared to be in good health and were subsequently detained and transported to Coral Harbour Base for further processing by immigration officials.”
