POLICE are investigating the discovery of a body found floating in waters off Potter’s Cay dock, yesterday afternoon.

The body of a man was found around 4:45pm. Foul play is not suspected, according to police.

Witnesses at the scene identified the deceased as a local fisherman by the name of Harry who is thought to be in his late 40s.

Witnesses said the body looked badly decomposed, estimating it had been in the water for “at least three days.”

Workers on board the mail-boat, Captain C – who did not want to be identified – said the body was discovered by a little girl, on board. One boat engineer said: “A little baby girl saw him when she was sitting on the dock. She said she seen a man floating in the water. Everyone thought she was talking foolishness until her mummy look and then everyone looked and saw this lifeless body in the water.

“The captain of our boat called the police. He had to have been in the water for a couple of days, his face had already started ([decomposing). He was floating.”

A crew member of Captain C said he saw police pull the body onto the dock with a rope and recognised the deceased.

“I was up on my boat when they pulled him up. He looked very bad – just rotten,” the crew member said. “I recognised him when they pulled him up. It was Harry.”

Police are continuing their investigations into the discovery.
