Following a disappointing loss on day one, the Bahamas bounced back to deliver a dominant performance of their own on day two for their first win of the FIBA Americas Under-16 Championship Tournament.

Sebastian Gray added 12 points and eight rebounds, Shemar Burrows added 11 points and five rebounds while Quemah Gibson again finished with a near double double - eight points and 13 rebounds.

Oswald Parker came off the bench to add eight points and four rebounds.

Mexico opened the game on a 5-0 run before Burrows finally put the Bahamas on the board with one of two free throws 2:30 into the first quarter.

Gibson made the first field goal for the Bahamas on the ensuing possession.

Team Bahamas trailed 12-7 at the 2:09 mark in the period but went on a run which would see them take control for good.

The deficit was cut to two at the end of the first, but the Bahamas went on a 13-0 run which extended into the second quarter.

The lead reached 20-12 before Mexico broke the drought on a pair of free throws from Melendez midway through the second.

Adderley gave the Bahamas an 18-point lead with 1:47 left in the half, for a 32-14 lead.

The Bahamas outscored Mexico 27-7 in the second period and led 37-19 at the half. They maintained at least a 17-point lead throughout the third period and reached 20 points for the first time on a pair of free throws from Parker with 2:04 left to play in the third.

Saul Santana led Mexico with 13 points while Rene Melendez finished with 10.

The Bahamas and Argentina are playing in Group A with Mexico and the United States.

The Bahamas will have to win two games in order to be able to advance to the playoff in a bid to be one of the four teams that will qualify for the World Games.

The remaining teams are playing in Group B - Puerto Rico, Uruguay, Canada and Chile.

The Bahamas qualified by finishing third at the 2012 Centrobasket Under-15 Championship in El Salvador.

Next up for the Bahamas, a showdown against tournament favourite United States at 2pm local time.

The US opened the tournament with a 99-point win over Mexico, 130-31.

All 12 men on the roster reached the scoreboard, including seven in double figures led by 20 points from Diamond Stone.

The top four teams from the championships will advance to the 2014 Under-17 FIBA World Championship June 26 to July 6.
