Bahamian composers to be celebrated

TEN Bahamian composers will be celebrated over the course of 20 diverse Bahamian songs in a concert to mark the 40th Anniversary of Independence.

JoAnn Callender’s ‘A Celebration of Bahamian Composers’ concert is at 8pm at Christ Church Cathedral on Saturday.

The composers include Cleophas Adderley, Clement Bethel, Eric Cash and Timothy Gibson.

Ms Callender said: “For more than a decade I have had the amazing privilege of performing recitals of Bahamian composed songs nationally and internationally.

“Our songs bring attention to the beauty of our music.

“It is my delight to share these songs at home during this most amazing celebration of 40 years of Bahamian independence.”

The concert is conducted by Adrian Archer, leader of The Highgrove Singers, while the musical performance ensemble includes Fred Ferguson, (guitar), Rake n’ Scrape, Lee Callender (piano), Dion Cunningham (piano) a five piece string ensemble, Kevin Dean (drums) Martin “Timmy” Higgs”(bass) and Ralph Munnings (alto sax).

Tickets are $35 from Custom Computers, Logos Bookstore and Commonwealth Fabrics.
