By RASHAD ROLLE

BAHAMIANS are encouraged to join in a national fun, run and walk to mark the 40th Anniversary of Independence.

It takes place at 6am on Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30 and is being coordinated by the One Bahamas organisation in conjunction with the Independence Commission.

Former Governor General of the Bahamas, and current chairman of One Bahamas, Sir Orville Turnquest, said yesterday the event would promote the importance of maintaining proper physical conditioning.

“Our human resource is the most important resource in the country,” he said.

“For us to function as a nation, due care must be given to the wellbeing of our bodies.

“Therefore we endorse very much this proposed walk. Fostering anything done for national unity is the hallmark of One Bahamas.

“One Bahamas believes that for family and friends to participate collectively is important therefore we encourage everyone residing in New Providence to participate.”
