A JUVENILE boy was charged with manslaughter yesterday in connection with last week’s fatal shooting of a 23-year-old Key West Street resident.

The 17-year-old, of the Grove, who cannot be named due to his age, appeared in Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Constance Delancey facing a manslaughter charge.

It is claimed that on Friday June 14, the boy caused the death of William McKenzie by means of unlawful harm.

McKenzie and another person were passing or playing with a loaded gun under a tent in a vacant yard when it went off, fatally shooting McKenzie in the chest some time between 3pm and 3.15pm.

The juvenile was not required to enter a plea to the charge and his case will be heard before the Juvenile Panel in Court No 2.

He was remanded into custody until the completion of the matter.
