Bahamas hosts reception for CARICOM event

THE Caribbean Community (CARICOM) celebrated 40 years of cooperation and strengthening of ties among member countries.

The Bahamas High Commission hosted the reception in Ottawa, Ontario, with High Commissioners of member countries, dignitaries and guests gathered to celebrate the milestone.

This year’s reception coincided with The Bahamas’ 40th Anniversary of Independence.

His Excellency Dr Calsey Johnson, High Commissioner to Canada for The Bahamas, served as Master of Ceremonies.

Some 400 guests were addressed by His Excellency Edward Greaves, High Commissioner to Canada for Barbados and current Dean of the CARICOM group of countries in Ottawa.

Guests met and mingled with various diplomats and dignitaries as they were treated to live music and food native to CARICOM member countries.

Mr Greaves addressed the need for continued co-operation between CARICOM nations and Canada.

High Commissioner Johnson spoke of the good relations between The Bahamas and Canada and he invited all in the room to visit The Bahamas, which he described as the most beautiful country in the world.

He also invited persons to invest in The Bahamas saying: “We are interested in direct foreign investment.”
