MOUNT Tabor Full Gospel Church recently honoured its own choice of ‘Fabulous 40’ fathers at an event as part of the 40th Anniversary of Independence. The Tribune has been publishing the church’s profiles of the fathers it chose, continuing with Valentine Grimes.

Valentine Grimes was admitted to the Supreme Court of The Bahamas after studying at the University of the West Indies and becoming counsel and an attorney.

He was also a banker and assistant manager at the Royal Bank of Canada.

He was a member of Perry Christie’s Transition Team following the 2002 General Election and was legal advisor to the Progressive Liberal Party.

He was general election national coordinator for the PLP and was government whip from July 1987 to 1992.

He was elected Member of Parliament for Fort Charlotte from July 1977 to 1992.

He was Chairman of the Board of People Penny Savings Bank from January 1983 to December 1987; Chairman of the Board of Bahamas Telecommunications Corporation from January 1978 to December 1982 and served on the board of the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas from January 1974 to December 1977.

A member of St Agnes Anglican Church, he was president of the Anglican Young Peoples Association (St Agnes Church) and a founding faculty member of The Bahamas Institute of Banks.

An avid sportsman, he was an All Star catcher fast pitch softball (Captain of Royal Bank of Canada Commercial League) and All Star BABA basketball player (Pinder’s Barbershop Captain and University of the West Indies Captain and MVP American Football) (Boil Fish Bowl).

He married Thelma Marie Barnett and their children are Dr Valentine S Grimes II, Dr Valya S Grimes and Dr Valron S Grimes.

Their grandchildren are Luke Valentine Grimes, Gregory Valentine Pinto, Isabel Natasha Marie Grimes and Hiram Valentine Grimes.
