Helping the 'Ican' attitude

By RASHAD ROLLE

THE Royal Society of St George has made a donation to Tehranique Miller, founder of the after school “ican” programme for children.

The cheque for $1,000 is to be used at Bahamas Food Services and is expected to help cover the cost of providing each child with a nourishing lunch during the summer programme.

Ms Miller’s after school programme began seven years ago with six students. It has since grown to 96 students.

The summer programme will feature literacy development exercises and activities geared toward nurturing an “i can” attitude in the children.

In the past year, The Royal Society of St George has made several donations to organisations in the Bahamas.

Five bullet proof vests were donated to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, while the Hands for Hunger organisation got funding for supplies.

Through the Lignum Vitae Institute, the society organised sewing lessons at the Elizabeth Estates Home for Girls.

Other recipients of donations included: the Sea Horse Institute, Operation Potcake, The Methodist Mission Children’s Club, and the School for the Deaf.
